NiP to Replay Spring Promotion Matches
— March 29, 2014Former IGN Necromancer and current LCS Grand Wizard Nick “Nick Allen” Allen announced yesterday that Ninjas in Pyjamas would replay their EU 2014 LCS Spring Season Lemondogs Replacement Matches, which originally occurred on January 11.
After a lengthy investigation, it was discovered that a Riot software bug prevented NiP top laner Morten “Zorozero” Rosenquist from patching his client. The LCS rulebook indicates that in this situation, Zorozero should have paused and contacted a referee via in-game chat. Unfortunately, the in-game chat was unavailable due to the client patching, forcing Zorozero into a tautological black hole from which there was no escape.
NiP corporate pawn and occasional Lemondogs owner Daniel “pani” Aicardi also applied for a regame against Team Paperwork. Aicardi claims a bug within Adobe Reader affected the results of the match and caused his 2-0 loss against LCS Form 2-A: Roster Registration.
Said Allen:
“While we fully understand the dangers of exposing a working computer to an Adobe product, we must maintain the integrity of the LCS. We cannot simply invalidate past results by offering rematches for trivial reasons.”
As a result of the NiP investigation, Riot has banned Adobe Air from tournament play until a hotfix is released.
While several fans and players have commented on the unfairness of a regame that invalidates nearly three months of LCS matches, especially with regards to original qualifier Supa Hot Crew, NiP mid laner Erlend “Nukeduck” Våtevik Holm believes it is the right decision.
“Everyone has to do things they don’t want to do. I had to pay a fine, SHC has to regame us,” said Nukeduck, who was fined for racist speech. “Five hundred dollars is a lot of money, especially if you don’t hoard it like a Jew.”
